The clutch is a mechanism that allows for safe and smooth riding, transferring engine power to the tarmac as required in a controlled manner. The clutch on a motorcycle disengages the engine from the transmission allowing them to move freely of each other. Without the clutch, the motorcycle could never stop without turning off the engine.
